Charles17 I feel your pain. I reside in the eastern United States and have been unable to find any ants, even though its supposed to be 'swarming season'. This is ridiculous and the fact that there aren't many ant owning Americans is a cause of further frustration. I am particularly interested in larger ant species. Oh well its sad.

Hi Bob, nice you want to keep ants. ;)

The law is hard on ant keepers in the USA, but there are very nice ants there, are you sure you can not find one at swarming season ?

Yea I couldn't. I have been living in this area for a few years and I haven't even seen the ants that DO live here(fire ants) swarm. Just last week I stumbled upon a fire ant queen outside a shopping store and rescued her because it appeared a few ants were trying to kill her. However as for swarming ants I haven't seen any. I am still looking though. The fact that no one sells ants here is frustrating. I think they should allow sale of ants to states to which the ants are already native at least. Oh well what the heck I guess I'll have to keep trying my luck and searching. At this stage I'm only interested in new queens. i do not want to invade an established nest. I don't believe in doing that. If someone mails me a colony fine but I refuse to invade established nests.
