Lewis: Lewis's Polyrhachis dives colony (26. Jul 2010 21:12)

Hi I have got i huge set up for not that much money all connected and with break out protection etc with all the materials and places to make their nest like an old flower pot.

it consists of five tanks one is 40x30 and the rest are 30x20, the ants will come in three - four week after we are back from america :)
i have many pics but as you may know i am just working out how to do it all as it is a nem cumputer and the software is different.

as i learn i will put as many pics up as possible showing the ants/set up.

Lewis

wow they just came just after i had posted that!

any way it looks like hundereds of workers and and they have come in a nest which is so cool. I am yet to see a queen. I have see 5 puepea and two large larvea and amazingly only about 10 dead ants.

update 10 minutes later:
they are eating loads of honey and are munching on a huge spider :D
they have started spinning with their larvea and it is awesome!!
and just saw a queen.
:D :D

update:
they are nest biulding now :D they have started under a large bit of moos and in a layer of reptile bark and dry grass.
temprature:28C
humidity: 60-70

update:27/08/10
They have made a good nest and are still nest biulding :)
Do you think i should take the old nest that they came in out??
As they are not really using it apart from sitting on top and eating a locust.
They have had a large locust three small ones and an adult cricket.

update:28/08/2012
They are still frantically makeing there nest but have now got a good main chamber and most large larvea seem to be there and also a few cocoons.
there have fully explored apart from a garbage chamber a connected by a meter of tubeing.
they have also got some bridges across some tanks.
totalnumber of tanks:5 (not including garbage chambers.

more pics soon :)

there has been alot more fighting as i expected but do you think i shouldlet them or seperate them. :?

these ants are now doing great in the flower pot in a 4ft fish tank.
but i would like to know how i could keep this colony in a set-up of which i could observe the colony, brood develpment and the queens? does any one have any ideas i could try out?
they seem to be out growing the flower pot.
