iribuya: Polyrhachis illaudata not too popular? (7. Jan 2009 22:54)

Hi,

I have been looking on ant forums for a couple weeks now, because I want to know more about peoples experience with the Polyrhachis illaudata species. But it's not so common people talk about them. Does anyone here have any experience on them.

I want to start my second colony this year, but I'm not quite sure what I want to have. This species sound really sweet, but I first want to have some personal experiences to start this thing.

Anyone have experience please repond, because I'm curious.

Its looking like a huge version of polyrhachis dives but its not spinning their nest like polyrhachis dives does. Small colonies are very inactive, just coming out at night. You cant buy big colonies so you have to go through these very boring times. For example i bought one colony at 10 workers, took them 2 months to go up to 24 workers but still they only came out at night. Another colony i bought at 11 workers, queen has not laid a single egg in 2 weeks time.

Thats only my personal experience but as you said, one can barely find any feedback on those ants so maybe others have experienced the same issues as i did...

Does anyone else have the same issues? I can buy them from antstore 1 queen and 26-50 ants. But this has been on for several months now so maybe I get more then 50 with it. I dont know why I can't buy them in a bigger colony form. It's like P. dives that they have multiple queens right? I read that in an article, they dont have multiple queens and the max this colony gets in nature is about 200-500 ants.

Well please someone tell me if you have experience with these ants. I'm going to buy them in 2-3 weeks. Have to make a good home for them right now.

I don't keep them myself but i can say that you can have more queens in a colony and that the colony gets much larger than 500 ants. :)
