mate: Myrmecia pavida (24. Jun 2009 11:36)

HI
I am very interested in this colony  and I have a few questions:
- maybe someone knows who sales Myrmecia species for "low price" because this colony is very expensive?
- what is the ideal humidity in nest of this ants?
-when this ants need a slight hibernation and for how long and at what temperature?

Seriously, use google.com, search for Australian insect boards or chatrooms and just ask one of the local Aussies to dig you up a colony.
Taking care of Myrmecia is relatively easy, just keep them slightly moist and not too hot.
They don't _need hibernation, but if you want you can give them a couple of weeks rest.

McK, any ideas what they would be like in a ytong?

My Myrmecia is in a y-tong and they do just fine.

This is actually a very nice idea :O
Too bad I do not have any space at the moment or I would give it a try for sure, Myrmecia are the coolest looking ants in existence imo (perhaps tied with those Eciton army ants ;))
