UneXisted: Raise colony Harpegnathos venator from queen, how hard is it (18. Jan 2010 12:36)

I can get queens of H. venator, but how hard is it to actually raise a colony of this species?

Don't have experience with this species myself. They are exotic so i think if you have any experience with exotic ants that you can try these ones to. Sure do let us know.

It is pretty hatd, because you nearly have to froce them to raise brood at the beginning. You have to hold them in a little box and feed lots of fies and even then they often kill their brood i heared. But they aren´t nearly as hard as the raising of an Gigantiops destructor queen, when you compare it to them it is an walk in the park! I still think it is a hard species to raise.
Harpegnathos as far as i know found their colonies semiclaustral mostly.
Btw it is the same with Harpegnathos saltaror and the other Harpegnathos species. Many Ponerine´s are hard to raise.
