Antsore's description does not include Camponotus spec. (from south/east Asia)'s size. How big are the workers please? Thank you.
If you had clicked the german section you would see that they are around 6-11mm... and no i dont speak german, i just use common sense.
Hello
I did stay two months in Punjab this summer and had plenty of time observing the abundent local Camponotus .They are very interesting :They forage almost exclusively on the ground surface and often foragers moves in colones sometime 20 or30 from and also to theyr nest following a scout very efficiently (few ants get loss on the way) with 2 or 3 big majors. The polymorfism is very importent and large majors like often in other ants have brown head ( they are all black ants ).
We have a nest in our new house and I told every body not to do anything against them or the 3 species of small other ants who have nest in the house . In India poeple do not bother for ants if it does not cause to much problem with the food. In Punjabi there are two words for ants :the big ants "kada" thesmall ants:" kirri" .
Do you know the specie or more about this ant ?
I had a queen with me in a testtube and now i have a small colony of about 10 workers with the queen and much brood.
Maybe if you could place some pictures here.
No not for the moment and now i have only small minors workers not bigger than a Serviformica .Those picture I have take in India are to blure to see anything.

you could use a translator page while in the german part it helps ( a bit.....)
translator.jpg
you don't even need a translator to see the ant sizes :P
you can see the measurements but you don't know what its refering to, majors & soldiers etc
i dont speak german but you can kinda tell what each one means...
correct me if im wrong on this
konigin = queen
mannchen = i geuss this is male
arbeiterinnen = worker
soldaten = soldiers
and from that pic you can look at them side by side and compare (thats if they are in the same place in the list on both)
hope this helps
hello,
My Camponotus from Punjab are doing very well : There is now about 18 workers and not a singel one have
died since the start of the colony. I did put the test tube cover with red foil in the 30/40cm ant appartement
with open lid borderd with fluon since one month and at least yesterday the ants started to escavate a nest now the escavation is in full swing.The workers are the very small first workers +big minor workers, not yet medium and majors.
