aka ant: Aka's Camponotus americanus (1. Jul 2010 00:23)

I captured this colony a few weeks ago and lost about 8-10 workers due to moving them around. The colony is stable now with 35+ workers 3-4 new workers and a large batch of brood (40+) This specie is quite picky when it comes to feeding but I managed to figure out what they like. Meal worms and spiders seem to be the only thing they take in for protein and most sweet liquids will do.

Small video of my colony foraging.
I accidentally disturbed them so you will see little action around the cricket.

The colony was crammed in the test tube so I decided to move them into my other Camponotus setup.
The move went smooth but I did have a few runners but managed to catch them all.

C americanus seem picky when it comes to food compared to any other Camponotus specie I have kept.
I made a list of what they will eat.
sugar water
honey
fruits
crickets
spiders
meal worms
flies

Very nice pictures and videos. I like the color of the eggs! :)

I have no idea why the eggs are orange.
