damn I had not luck with this nice specie #-o
shame Skippy.. they really are lovely :D Perhaps you should try again ;)
On the 4the picture you can see the small major very well. Above the queen.
Looks like the are doing well Steve. Good job.
@ Skippy: sorry to hear that mate, they are in deed very nice species.
Thats a small major... you mean they get bigger than that.. AWESOME!!! i actually fed them a live cricket.. medium to large size.. just to see if they could handle it.. And it was completly differnt to rubra.. where they just all charge an attack and bite it to death lol These girls just went back n forth meeting with each other warning or tellin them about it... an they never seemed to dirrectly attack.. but looked like they was spraying.. or at least stiging with the tail end.. didnt take long before it was on its back and just twitching.. and now its half gone lol
If i'm not mistaken, yes they get a little bigger than that. (mine did :) )
I sometimes to feed them a small cricket (live). I find it a bit crewel for the cricket but it is nice to see them 'hunt' it and see them so active.
Yes they do sting (/spray) the prey and than take it to there nest.
Quick update..
They are doing really well now.. Enjoy killing small crickets and are growing fairly quick now :D
few new pics for you.. sorry they aint mega close ups.
Very nice Steve, they are doing a good job (you to off course :) ).
OK guys.. I have just got my hands on a nice big 3' tank.. and im gonna put these ants in there.. most probabily in a ytong.. BUT... i want ideas of what to add to the tank aswell.. And im open to other ideas besides the ytong.. Impress me people :)
You can almost put everything inside the farm :) it looks really nice if you put a few things inside it only makes it harder to clean. Keep that in mind. ;)
Ok guys.. here is my idea.. 2 ytongs in the tank.. one damp and one not.. With sand inbetween and plenty of decoration.. bark.. bits of tree.. moss.. usual nice thing.. What you all think??
