Hey McK.. Just wondering with your colony have you noticed a break between egg laying?? My queen went into overdrive and laid like tons and i had loads of cocoons and still have some but there is no sign of eggs or larvae now... Have you seen the same in your colony ??

I know it happens with lot of species. They queens only lay that the colony can raise so i suppose these will do to.

Yes, this species lays eggs in "batches" and the queen takes a resting period between each batch.

Hello MCK,

Just wondering m8 have your ants starting to leg any more eggs??? Mine have been on a break now for several weeks with no sign of laying new eggs.. Yet they still eat plenty of protein... Im thinking that if they do not lay any soon then it is going to be doubtfull they will again this year.. What do you think??

Mine hasn't laid any eggs in over 6 months, so it's not looking good either.

JimmyVe: Re: Cataglyphis velox (McK) (11. Sep 2009 18:30)

I have the same problem with mine.

insanebe: Re: Cataglyphis velox (McK) (11. Sep 2009 23:08)

maybe the temperature is too high, i know the ants are climatised to very high temperatures +35C but i read the nest go very deep under ground where its much cooler at 25C
