i agree jimmy.. these really are nice ants.. and i think they are next on my list :)
I got my colony today also from xcom.. has around 50 workers.. had a fair few die in transport... but they seem ok now. Once my camera is back up and running il start my own diary :)
there well nice ants, the only thing i dont like is long legs it sends a shiver, i got arachnophobia ;/ idk how im ment to get over the fear because even anything like ants with long legs will get my scared ;(, so if i do really get into ants its really gunna limit my choice :S, also is it normal to be scared of things that resemble spiders slightly?
Of course it is, but if you ever want an exotic ant specie, you will have to get over your fear of insects with long legs ;)
Jamcom
It is something that you can get over if it's not really bad. You just need to get used to them, and push yourself to confront the fear one bit at a time. It'll be worth it in the end. Start with pictures, work up to live ones at a distance, and then prod them with a pen or something to make them move. Eventually you can try picking them up.
If you keep at it, it will get a lot easier.
You don't want to live your life with an irrational fear like that.
Yeah, I wasn't to fond of this species myself, I was afraid to put them on my hand, but now I can just pick them up and let them walk over my hand.
The only ant specie that I'm still afraid of is my Pogonomyrmex barbatus colony, just because their sting feels like a needle going through your skin and staying there for ten minutes moving around :D
you put the ytong in the water to cool it rigth?
Actually it's for keeping them moist, but that's not really necessary with this species.
Can I ask how you ventilate your dry nest? It looks nice and dry with no condensation.
Well, it only looks that way, there's a little bit of condensation near the water reservoir, but if you put the heater mat on it, it'll go away ;)
