Seph0n: Mites! (24. Nov 2011 18:27)

Today I noticed a little white "blop" on the neck of one of my Pheidole Pallidula workers. What should I do? Is it a mite, and if it is, how do I treat it?

I took a poison used against aphids and sprayed in the formicarium. Worked for me....(ah, well for the ants that is).
Never sprayed direct at (or is it "on") the ants.
First it killed all the mites but then the eggs hatched and I had to do it once more. Now 0 mites left. No dead Camponotus vicinus.

Very helpful advice, thank you so much. Could you please send me a PM about what product you were using? I'm afraid I might end up using pesticides by accident. I'm not too sure if we're permitted to discuss that on the board, so a PM would be nice.

Thanks!

In Sweden it´s called: Provado PLUS. Company that makes the stuff= Bayer.
Its a "last solution" to spray direct at the ants but I would try it to save the colony.

Good luck!
