yep these ants are hard to get hold of. their only available around August September times (swarming)
My Queen was sent over from Arizona USA, to England then to me from a seller. Martin Goss.
he sells out VERY quickly and he only usually gets 2-4 queens a year and their quite travel stressed.

but mines done well, since July shes had nearly 250+ workers. and im told that Pheidole rhea colonies fetch up to $500.

Martin also sold me a queen, she was dead on arrival and had been dead for days, I asked my money back but he never replied.
Look out with that guy, only 1 out of 10 queens he sells are fertile.

quick update. sorry no pics yet

well id say there is 2000+ plus ants now, i am selling the colony off now, but cant send them in the post, only be self collect i guess.
decided to sell them because i am moving to York in September, to start University, and no pets are allowed at my accommodation. :(

Where are you in the UK now kashmir?

JimmyVe: Re: Pheidole rhea (20. Jul 2009 22:11)

To bad, its sad to sell such a nice big colony. Make sure you sell them to someone who know what he is doing. It would be a shame if this colony would die.

kashmir79: Re: Pheidole rhea (22. Jul 2009 12:04)

im living in Scarborough as of Sept 17-18th then i move to York.

it would be shame if i sold these ants on and the person didn't know what they were doing, not for beginners at all.
these ants are fantastic, the casts are amazing, the Supermajors and Queen are so impressive. but i haven't seen the queen in 2 months, but i know shes active, as the sheer amount of eggs i see being transported around the nest. i had to take the Y-Tong out of the big tank, and they filled it with sand and moved into the open area, began a building project and messed up the whole setup. i just added loads more sand and they have a nice big home now. but it wont last too long i guess.

doubt it. their quite big. remember Pheidole r hea are the one of Biggest Pheidole species in the world. the queen is 14mm and minors are 6-8mm majors 8-10mm

The largest species of Pheidole are either Pheidole fimbriata or Pheidole c eratopheidole sinica who have Majors around 7-8mm long, the head alone is 3mm which is bigger than some Pheidole soldiers altogether. :shock:I would say P heidole rhea are around third or fourth biggest.

I have never seen P heidole r hea majors over 7mm :?:
