Hey guys this is my new rubra colony :)
Ive had them for about 2 days now and i am keeping them in a starter set, the starter set includes a small farm and arena :)
They consist of i think about 80 or so workers and 1 queen.
They are doing great, they are still in the test tube.
They have a big appetite and the other day i fed them 7 baby crickets and 1 spider :) So i think thats a good sign :D
So ye i just thought id share my pictures with you guys :)
Advice and Tips are appreciated.
yeh i find my rubra love crickets.. they kill and take full grown ones back to the nest ;) and yup ive found they LOVE apple.. will stay on it for hours sucking out the sugars. Mine aint too bothered about fish flakes tho.. atm im trying them with some Vitamin n Protien jelly from antstore n they seem to like it.. fair few ants all around it. They also like fruit flys too.. i think these ants will eat almost anything lol
yes they are very easy going, ive just fed mine another load of live crickets. It's cool to watch them kill and take them back to the tube..
Ive also noticed that they are rubish climbers. Ive had to put a twig up to the hole with the tube to the farm in. To help them up :P
But i can't wait for them to start digging some tunnels that should be cool to watch.
Alex.
I have a myrmica rubra colony myself
And I also really like them :D
I hope you will enjoy them as much as I do
and that everything will go well.
It's funny to see, that when I put a fly in the outside world,
and a worker discovers it. A couple seconds later a lot of friends
come out of the nest to help :D
I've seen a video of this behavior on youtube
http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=jn9cQd57FVE
this is what I meant. Very funny to watch ( this is not my colony )
Hey,

I think they are gonna move in soon.

Alex
Nice colonie, they seem very healthy and livley :). By the way thats alot of fly pupae.
very very nice :)
Thanks, yes there are alot of pupas in there but atleast they won't get hungry :D
Where did you get the fly pupa?
You can buy larvas in fishing shop. Leave them alone and you will get pupa and later fly.
Personalny, I keep container with flies in fridge under 0 C, so i have very cheap, efficient and steril source of proteins for my ants.
