TheSecretSquirrel: Myrmica rubra (14. Jul 2014 17:44)

First of all, are Myrmica rubra fire ants?

If so, then....

Do they have more than one queen per colony? I've always liked the idea of that :D
Also can anyone give me tips on keeping these ants, would love to get a colony of them soon :D
Any extra info would be nice too, like, how long they take to develop .ext

My colony of M. rubra has 4 queens. I could be wrong, but I dont think Fire ants are in the Uk, yet lol.

I can supply M. rubra with more than one queen, if you struggle to source them. They are well easy to keep.

Awesome! Thanks :)

How fast does the colony grow? And what would I need to feed them? Same as Lasius n iger?

Hmmm fairly fast I suppose. I feed mine of sugar-water and honey. The larvae get cockroaches, spiders, flies, mealworms and crickets (not all at the same time, mind you).

I would feed them water, insects, sugar water and some vitamin jelly. it really helps them.
