nerdgeek: Hibernating Myrmica rubra (18. Okt 2010 08:54)

Hi,

My 3 queens are still laying, and the temp of the colony is around 18C droping to about 12C at night.

I was thinking about wrapping them in bubble wrap and putting them in a cardboard box and placing them in the garage outside. However shall I do this now or in a few weeks, like in November?

While they're hibernating, am I right in thinking that I need to make sure they are topped up with water and add the odd honey drink but apart from that leave them be?

Lastly before putting them away is it a good idea to feed them some mealworms to feed the brood and queen?

Thanks
