ant kid: I have a few questions (24. Feb 2010 20:46)

Hello,

Well can M yrmica rubra climb through a thick layer of vaseline? Also how long does it take for colonies to produce new queens?

Thanks,

ant kid

Queens are produced every year, if your colony is large, arriving after the male alates. They cannot climb through Vaseline if you conitnually keep the vaseline clean and thick. Good luck, Ant kid!

Yup as Mikey said.. First year i had mine.. they had a boom and i had around 500-1000 ants.. Second year they produced males and queens.. some of which are now in the colony laying new eggs.. If you are planning on gettin a large colony that will produce queens.. make sure you get a lid.. cos the last thing you want is ants flying around your house.
