just seen a male Myrmica rubra - i obviously dont want it flying out into my room do people trade males with other males or females on here? do they fly often or only during mating times?

people dont trade males as far as i know.. and they only fly during the mating flight. I have them in my colony too.. along with new queens, so if i was you id be keeping them covered over the next couple of weeks untill they have tried to have there flight and just return to the nest... Or die!

Why would you trade males of a species that is so common as Myrmica rubra? ;)

lol i only find L asius niger around here i am gonna take trip upto the country side ( 20mins walk out city ) and take look when bit hotter for some Myrmica rubra queens
