Wow!
Clear glass!!
And lots of eggs!
I hope they will grow very fast :D
how did you catch them? with your hands?
well i have just captured a colony of around 2000 workers 5 queens and tonnes of larvea but i can not think of what to put them in.
they are in two ice cream tubs connected and they are conected to the collecting jar there are 2 testtube in each and the seem to have moved into alot of them but i do not know if the is enough room?
Yes, I caught them with my hands (wearing very thin Vinyl gloves). It's part of a technique I use when collecting wild ants. I outline it in my book.
You need to move them into a formicarium asap! They really like wet nests so keep them moist! Also, they eat a lot so feed them lots of insects every day, but provide them sugars as well like sliced fruit or sugar water. They need both.
Best of luck, Lewis!
Wow.. thats a really big colony! And very beatifull :D
How are the ant right now?
Why are there holls in the glass :?:
I removed the vinyl flaps for photography, but those holes are for water inserted by way of a pipette. It's usually covered with a vinyl flap, as seen in this video which describes the design:

If you're talking about the grout nest, it's grout, and our pumice nests are made of pumice stone. However, the material that makes up our Habitat Nests are an all-original invention of the store - a mold-resistant and water absorbent stone we call Soakstone ©.
