highered: Manica rubida (13. Jun 2008 15:18)

There is no English description for these ants. Does anyone know their description please? Is it the same as the myrmica red ants? Thank you.

try using this (http://babelfish.yahoo.com/?fr=avbbf-us) it works for me although you may have to think about what it means.LOL
But they are almost the same as Myrmica.

They are much larger than Myrmica rubra, but yep as Antmad said, try babelfish.yahoo.com :)

They look similar, but there are many differences in behaviour, Manica is more agressive and territorial, while Myrmica sometimes live in the same territory with Lasius or Formica species. Myrmica like damp, shady places, and Manica prefer sandy, sunny areas, just like Formica cinerea (they are often neighbours)

what are their size difference in mm?

Myrmica - worker 4-6 mm, queen 6-7 mm
Manica - worker 6-9 mm, queen ca. 12 mm
:)

i dont suppose any of you know how long it takes from egg to worker?

I had a colony for about a your from this species. Unfortunately the queen died. If i'm not mistaken it takes about 8-10 weeks.
