Its Messor barbarus (b in small letters).
How come you only look for information now,AFTER ordering?
Plenty of information in the forums, if you invest the time in translating some of the german infos.
Cant really understand why you havent done that already.

@kashmir79

Don't take it so personaly. A lot has been written about this specie of ants and I personaly answer this kind of questions at least 5 times. Do look around and if you still don't get the information you look for feel free to PM me or post it on the forum.

Good luck with your new ants.

As mpir said, nothing personal, seen to many people buy ants before they had any idea what to do with them. if you did inform your self, glad to hear, specify what open questions remain then.

Hi all,

Hello there. I have a tip about Messor barbarus. If you are using a soil nest, you must keep one side of the soil damp and the other side dry. It's best if you have more soil on one side of the tank and less soil on the other side, so then you can water the side with less soil and the water doesn't soak up as much on the other side. The ants will use the lower side for brood development and the dry side for there seed chambers.

I hope this helps a bit. :D

kashmir79: (30. Okt 2007 21:25)

oh yes, to do with seed germination when they keep them in the nest ?

thanks !
