So i've been trawling through the forum for a few weeks now and i've found a lot of useful information. I kept a L asius nig er colony to about 500 workers and a C amp onotus lig niperda to about 100 workers, i gave them to my sisters school for observations. I now want to try a M essor barb arus colony but want to make their set up perfect. I've drawn up some plans to build an acrylic apartment like basin but with some vast improvements on the bog standard ones you can buy. I wanted to know how people go about heating their nests and keeping a constant temperature? Also whether to use a Y tong or sand... i know people have different preferences but i want to give these guys a good start. My C amponotus lig niperda were in a y tong with infa red heater but that was very unstable as heat fluctuated greatly. if someone could give me some pointers on this species preferences and best way to keep a constant temperature, then i can model up some 3d images and post them here. Ill create a step by step so everyone can see. Any help really appreciated!!!!
grab yaself a heatmat and put a pulse thermostat on it
any idea where i can get one for under 30 quid?
pulse stats are normally 32 on ebay mircoclimates are ok i use it fine on my Messor.
Do they need a change of temperature at night or will a solid 25-30 degree all the time suffice? Just got the materials to build it today so I'll post some pics when I'm on it.
Its not bad to change temperature. Day and night.
