SteveOh: Messor barbarus in 4' tank? (1. Feb 2010 21:45)

Hi folks.

I'm going to setup a tank for Messor barbarus.

the tank is 4' x 15" x 12"

what would be the ideal setup for them?
Is a sand loam mix best for the area that I would like them to nest in?

i thought about planting a small area with grass.

Or should I just stick to good old sand?

any help appreciated.

Hi,
I would go for a sand loam mix.
It would be better to give them 2 tanks, in my opinion, one for there nesting area and one to feed them and where they can drop the thrash.

Good luck.

I agree with Jimmy, but its easy to do. get yaself a lid drill a hole and stick some tubing through leading to a feeding tank :)

I think you both missed the point.

The tank is 4 feet long, and over a foot wide and high.

the idea is to let them have the run of the whole tank, I have made one end burrowing clay for the nest and the rest will be a foreaging area...

I think it sounds like a good idea, if I had a proper lid I'd do the same in one of my old aquariums!
