I just bought a new M essor barbarus colony with one worker. I have rapped the tube in foil and put them in a small area. The worker has draged some sand and a couple of seeds in there. I only got them yesterday how can I get her to lay eggs?
You just need time...
Always keep some fresh proteins (dead animals) and seeds in the formicarium so that they always have something to eat. Also fresh water is a must. Additionally you need to heat their home. There should be temperatures around 25°C i think. But normally their hibernation period is until february.
So if you do this you should just wait and normally the colony will develop nicely. :-) Good luck!
guys i realy dont know waht to do her last worker is missing???
Maybe she is digging in the sand.
no there is only a thin layer of sand
Umm - what's the protection against them getting out?
vaseline
ok now i just put i baby cricket in her testube and she is eating it. she has nerly eaten half of it. So hopfuly by morning there will be some eggs.
It doesn't go so fast. You need a lot of patience with ants. If you are a starter it would be better if you pickt a easier species to start with. One that developes a lot easier and faster than Messor barbarus .
