Ok i have had my M essor barbarus since september kept her dark and with all correct temps and still no eggs or anything - what should i do would it be more humane to kill her or what ?
or does anyone want her for free if come and collect her.
She did have a hibernation, if not that is probably the reason?
nope she had her hibernation she just wont do nothing at all and i dont want to keep the heat mat on for a year and waste electric ( not cheap in england ) if shes basically a dud now
Feed her to your other ants, thats whats gonna happen to my one soon if she dont lay eggs!
Has she eaten anything?
no she has eaten nothing

OMG Jeoff that is like the most horrid thing ive ever heard. Keeping ants is all about patience. If you cant be bothered to wait then you really shouldnt be keeping ants.
I've said before that messors can be very hard to keep from a single queen. Firstly.. where is the heat mat and is it being controlled via a thermostat.. as if it is under her and not controlled.. then im surprised she is not already dead.. if it gets too hot she can become infertile..
If she has not ate.. then it might be she does not have enough food stored to start a colony so when she is laying eggs she eats them to stay alive... Perhaps you could try feeding her with some cricket or other insect.. and maybe a little honey water.. Then just leave her somewhere warmish and dark.. and just ignore her for like a month. Do not kill her tho...
ye i dont think i would of killed her - ill put her in tube in draw for while with some food
If shes infertile what else can I do with her? It would be a waste just to throw her away and illegal to release her. I have tried feeding her insects, honey, seeds but she is not interested. So now what Steve, leave her to die in a test tube or put her out of her misery?
I put mine in test tube with some honey and that and shes eating it but im sure shes a dud now
