Gave both colonies their own beetles. Seems like they have been touched at least, some legs ripped i guess.

Thanks Jimmy. Also forgot to mention, but feel free to move this to "experience with european ants" if you wish.

Done :)

Great :) Will post some pics of the ants as soon as possible.

Gave both colonies some grass seeds. I'm gonna be away for 8 days starting from tomorrow and i hope nothing bad will happen.

EDIT: now there's some messors carrying the grass seeds inside. A lot of them have been carried already.

JimmyVe: (3. Jun 2008 22:01)

If they have enough food, water and the nest is moist enough they should survive 8 days without any problems.

The colony is doing extremely well. They are not eating fly's, but all the mosquitoes i've given to them have disappeared. They have about 20 ants in the colony and the next generation will be bigger and bigger.

My M. barbarus had about 35 workers and one smaller major, and I had left them on one my terrarium in our garage, where is about 25°C and we are growing there our plants... I had left them and didn´t moved with them for 1 month, cause they have many seeds in the tube... Now I picked them up and looked.... I was shocked... Population 50 and 20 puppaes!!!!!

The are still doing very well. I sold the slightly smaller colony ( i dont need more than 1 ), and this colony has now about 4 majors and maybe 60 workers (hard to count, everytime i open cover half of them run to the arena). I know this colony could be bigger, but i have kept them in nothing more than room temperatures (21-23 celsius) and I haven't fed them as much as i could. I bought one queen in april and she made the first workerk the 27 of may.The colony is growing up very fast, now are about 100 workers with 3 majors that are very big and about 10 majors not so big as the other but more than workers,
I keep them in a y-tong nest dry and twice a week I put some water in three holes for the humidity and every day I give them one or two insects and now they eat even the chiken.
