31... that seems a little too hot anyays... im pretty sure it should only be like 26ish
+1 absolutely
I don't think it gets above 30c a couple of inches underground somehow. If you are going to give that much heat or more, you must give her the option of moving somewhere about 25c. I did not offer that much heat untill there were a good few dozen workers.
i set another tube up and its cooler there so she can move if she wishes
Thanks Phasmid... I did say that from experience.. i have 2 colonies of messors.. both never go about 28 EVER... lowest night time temp is 12.. And they are doing fantastic..
Just for the record... Raising a messor queen from scratch is also pretty difficult.. they should be left along somewhere dark for a fair few weeks/months.. untill there is at least first workers.
these last summers here in Portugal, the temperature has getting to 46c, and I have seen lots of messor barbadus nests, and they dind't got fried.
good she seems comfertable ive offered her cooler place now so hopefully will get some workers soon
Tempretures might get that hot cowmaster... but how many nests are about the ground... none.. Mostly they will be deep in the ground, where it is much cooler.

With 46º, You can´t see M essors walking...You have that temperatures like 26º-30º in the end of the afternoon and there you can see them. Night: 12º-18º Rarely see M essors walking freely. They are always hided. And Im from Portugal too.
In one summer I was in rio Guadiana and I caught a 46ºC in afternoon day :D
