Hi all well I decided to start again with my ants so to begin with I have a queen M.barbarus red headed type on the way, so I will restart this thread in the very near future :) Trouble is I seem to have bought them just as hibernation starts so it will be a bit quiet for a few months lol.
Hey Simo_Roma where's the pics ? :)
:D Andie hi,
I am also from Devon, last time I visited the tackle shop in Torquay they stocked maggots.
Maybe you get this post maybe you don't, I hope your still active here, I am just starting out with a new Messor barbarus queen, so you are proving to be inspirational, I am due to go to TQ on Thursday, so will check in on the tackle shop I know, if they do still stock maggots then I will pm you, nice blog btw, I will be spending a bit more time there for sure :)
OOPs sorry scoob havent been around for ages..
So yes came out from hibernation last year and continued to grow, but slowly compared to my previous colony. Since that they have again hibernated and on th 1st of Feb 2016 i began to warm them up ready for another year. There are already a good mix of sizes but i still havent got around to counting. Probably about 40 at a guess. They are still in the test tube and have been out taking seeds and a cockroach into the nest. My apologies for the photos disapearing from this thread, but i moved servers and the links are wrong. Not sure if i can do anything about that ???
Happy to say that ive managed to get all my pictures back on my posts. God it's quiet here..... I hope this forum is not another casualty of Face Book. :(
Even if there are not so much answers now, I think, many people still read your posts!

I read them.
Most of the european species are hibernating at the moment. Once they come out of hibernation, usually in March, the forums will be much more active again.
My Messor are still in hibernation too. I think, I'll end it in March.

Mine are a bit early but it will be gradual until march. After initially opening the test tube and some quick activity the ants are still quite slow. The arena is only about 17c though.
Nice to be back after problems at home.
