As I went to walk out the door this morning and right infront of me as i walk out is a L asius niger queen stumbling around on the floor! I couldn't believe my look. She is still winged so im not 100%, however i have found a male winged and put that in with her, and she just seems very violent towards him. Any idea's anyone?
Just puting a male to her won't do it. When mating they need to fly and the actual mating then happens on the ground. However many Lasius spp. need to fly it seems.
There is a small chance that she did already mate and just didn´t shade her wings but this chance is fairly small.
However when there is one queen there will be more, just keep looking about the same time you found this one.
Thanks fo rthe advice, ive let that queen go after her wings were still on thismorning. Lucky enough though i found another which is mated as she has no wings! She was trying to burry herself into our door matt! Happy days!!!

Does anyone know roughly how long a queen will take to settle down and lay eggs? She has 1 worker with her and some honey, also, does anyone know what i could give them for protein?
