Helle guys!
This is my first ant-colony, and i am really excited to begin observing development and life of my colony :P .
It is now three weeks ago my lasius niger colony (1 queen, 15 workers) woke up from hibernation. They are doing well and the queen is already laying pupas. I bought som dry-grilled crickets from antstore and a bottle of sugar-honey mix for my ants. The problem is. They dont eat the crickets and the honey-sugar mix? Is Lasius niger not able to eat grilled crickets?. Hmm.. perhaps the colony is to small yet and simply dont eat that much?

Your have answered that question yourself mate... They are a very small colony so chances are you wont see them eating yet.
However none of my ants have ever liked any dried.. grilled.. or anything else.. they always eat fresh insects, perhaps you should try finidng a house spider for them! :)
Thanks for the answer, it is probably the reason why i cant see chances in the food dishes :)
I will hunt some fresh insects soon when the weather becomes more warm and insects is appearing.
Anyway, it is really nice to know this forum with other ant enthusiastics. It is a big help to knowledge.
Greetings, Bjarke.
BTW, the queen doesn't lay pupas, but eggs that hatch into larvae, which turn into pupae, and then adults. Or you might have meant to write that the queen is laying eggs. Just wanted to make sure you knew the correct terms :D .
Hey. My english is unfortunately not that good yet. Anyway thanks for the information, i was not sure about the stages of development from egg to pupae :-)
Your English is actually very good. And one more thing.... I really wish the queen did lay pupae. :) Then the colony would grow a lot faster!
Thank you. Haha :) What a productive colony i would get then!
It would be awesome! Anyway, good luck with your colony!
