hi,
i bought a colony of L asius niger ants off a different website without any queen but i don't know what to feed them :( i tried fruit but they don't seem to touch it.
any suggestions please post.
Sugarwater or honeywater and Insects.
what about fruit?
You can test, what they eat (while in hibernation I would propose: nothing or not much),
but the mainfoodsupply for the most ants is honey/shugar mixed with water for energy,
and insects for to grow...
And you should inform yourselve bevore buying animals...
i tried them with apple, banana and grape but they don't seem to touch it.
i had it for christmas so i didn't know i was having it did i. i think i will order a colony from antstore next, they have survived 2 weeks so far anyway.
So try the traditional food!
which is?
I did write it two times bevore!
Honey- or sugarwater and Insects!
can you put in any insects?
what about dried mealworms?
You can use fresh maelworms, flyes, drosophila, and other insects you can find in your chamber or outside - even spiders.
Important is, that you kill them with 100°C water to kill eventually parasites!
Dried things are bad, normally they can only take fluid things...
Edit: It should help too, if you would destroy the shells of stronger Insects like (death) maelworms with an knive bevore you give them to the ants!
