ant kid: Lasius niger want move to new nest. Old nest MOLD (3. Jan 2011 14:35)

Hello,

Well I have a small problem and need your help guys.

You see....

One of my Lasius niger colonies are in a plaster nest.

Its a small plastic tub which is tall. So I made the tunnels and chambers with plasticine and filled it with a mixture of plaster and water.

Now they have been in it for several months and its getting very moldy.

Some days ago I made an exact replica ( But clean of course ) but after 2 weeks they did not move, and my reason why I think they did not move was because since the queen is located in the furthest, deepest chamber she is not able to climb and get to the tubing.

So I decided to make a small hole yesterday where the queen was but all the workers rushed to the hole so I could not complete it.

I really want them to be in the other nest. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

ant kid

P.S I have tried letting the setup dry, exposed to a bit of light and leave food in new nest.

one important thing would be to never put Food inside your Nest!

They will move once they cant stand it anymore where they are, so I'd just wait a bit.

When I tried to offer my Lasius niger a new Nest because the old one was mouldy they thought they could use the new one as a rubbish dump...

Just wait and maybe some day they will move. The Queen shouldnt have a Problem coming out, she can move up the strangest places if she has to.

Maybe you could show a few pictures? :cam:
