Don Zauker: Lasius niger hibernation (6. Aug 2009 17:44)

Hi,
I have one question about the hibernation for my Lasius niger.
I would hibernate my colony this winter (it's my first colony), from november to february.
I can use a garage but I have some trouble about temperature.
I found a link with the temperature during the year in my city, in the period between november and february we have 2°-3°C minimum and 10°-12°C max.
Can I simply put my colony inside the garage or I have to use some kind of heat insulator?

Thank you and sorry for my english! ;-)

If you keep them in there test tube you could just wrap it in bubble wrap.. but inside a garage i imagine they would be fine.. I used to put mine in the shed and never had probs :)

Hi.
Thanks for your answer.
The ants are in the test tube (they are almost 40) and this is in the arena. I think that they will move in the farm before november.

I think its save to put the farm into the garage with those temperatures.
