This summer was a great experience housing various species of ants, and the Formica fusca ants in particular proved to be an epic adventure in itself. Here's a video which describes how I was able to introduce some unrelated adult worker ants that had been orphaned to a queen who had been displaced from an original colony.

We have somebody ( ERNE ) in the german forum , who had a whole colony of adult acromyrmex workers adopted to his new colony.
He mad a setup so the both colonys could "smell" each other.
And after a while he opened " the gates " between both colonys. Now they are one union
