yep you could do that i got a fusa colony as slaves for mine both with there own basin

FredeP: (6. Aug 2008 13:17)

Okay - but do they not kill the fusca queen? Or what?

gabranth: (6. Aug 2008 13:47)

they will if you keep them in the same tube you need to keep there nests apart from each other 2 basins or ytong connected by a tube or in a large basin with 1 colony at one end and the other at the other end

KiamCameron: (6. Aug 2008 15:18)

yeah there is a possibility still that they do kill the queen though...

FredeP: (6. Aug 2008 15:52)

It's hard to control a colonies like that?d:

kerzhakov: (6. Aug 2008 17:16)

hello, frede. i ordered formica sanguinea and the queen came with 30 formica fusca workers and no sanguinea workers so chances are u will be supplied with slaves for them. If you were to have a seperate basin for a slave species there would be no guarantee the sanguinea would raid the other colony very often. i suppose it would depend on how many sanguinea you were supplied cause i cant see fusca's raiding a colony! :)
plus in nature they say they only raid once or twice a year but hopefully ill find that out for myself soon.

Calco: (6. Aug 2008 23:05)

yea, when I ordered my sanguinea they came with about 14 slaves, had them for about a week and now I have about 3-5 cocoons and lots of larvae :D

kerzhakov: (6. Aug 2008 23:10)

I'm still not sure if my sanguinea queen is fertile cause i couldnt see any eggs. im sure she will be. Did ur slaves just sit around the queen alot Calco? i can hardly get a look at her. lol. When the pupae hatch ill have to see if its fuscas or (fingers crossed) sanguinea. cant wait to see them in action!

Calco: (7. Aug 2008 14:27)

they did for a little while, then once they seemed to have settled in they dug a mass of tunnels. Now the queen happily stays in her chamber and the workers constantly care for the eggs. Would write more but there is a massive storm going over :)

EDIT: Just sat and watched them for a while, the queen seems to be a bit restless, wandering about in and out of the nest

cheers calco, message me and keep me updated. ill let u know how mine are getting one also!
