Barbarossa: Camponotus ligniperdus - Eggs Not Developing (2. Jul 2013 07:24)

Hi, I have had a colony of Camponotus ligniperdus - queen and about 15 workers - for about 3 months now. The queen has been laying eggs for about 8 weeks but none of them seem to be developing.

I have a foraging tank and a formicarium with sand and loam and while they have dug tunnels in the sand, they prefer to live in the tube between the two.

Any advice?

They might be going into hibernation.
Camponotus ligniperdus ants can sometimes choose their own time to hibernate.
My colony doesn't develop to at the moment.

Did the queen ever layed eggs which developed into ants?
If so, then it will be okay!
