abzantz: Camponotus herculeanus temp? (26. Apr 2011 15:43)

Hey guys my C amponotus hercul ea nus queen tends to lay eggs at 20c but I find this a little cold and her eggs are taking for ever to hatch. She is still by her self. What is the perfect temp do I keep her at. Also what temp do I keep M essor barbarus queen at?

For the Camponot u s you could try to set the temp about 24-26 C and for Messor 25C.

Hope it helped ;)

I keep my C. h erculeanus at around 24-28c. She's seems to lay far more eggs at higher temps and I also keep humidity around 25-35%.

I'm not sure if these temps are recommended but it what works well for my queen. She has 8 workers now

keep C. ligniperdus and C. herculeanus without any heater, just the temperatur of your room.
keep it too warm, and they will finish the summer very soon and celebrate the hibernation :D
so some years ago iam proud to watch a "sleeping" C. ligniperdus in August :(

with Messor barbarus : dont forget, the ants live not open on the gound.
you think inside the nest we will found 28°C???
better take moderate temperatur and you will enjoy a stable, health colony!

Messor would hot have temps of 28c in the nest.. think about it... they are underground.. where it is much cooler than the surface... so I would have thought no more than 23... maybe less.. I kept mine at room temp, and in June/July added a heat mat to a small portion of the ytong they was in... which they moved away from.. so i'm sure they do fine with no heat.. Well I know they do as mine did :)
