Koki: Help please! (27. Aug 2010 18:14)

Hello.

I have Camponotus c ruentatus queen with 3 workers and brood... Now i need your help because i dont know if i can take the test tube out on day light (now it is in dark and worm place).
Do you think the queen is ready?

Thank you for your answers.

Put the tube in something like paper to cover it from light and open it, that should worke well.
You also can put the tube underground or just cover it with sand.
Thats how i do it.

Koki: Re: Help please! (27. Aug 2010 23:07)

I puted some sand in a plastic box, gave the test tube on the sand and covered it with sand (except for the entrance of course).
But the problem is that i dont really think that they like it, because they blocked the entrance with send and other stuff...
And i dont know what should i put as a food because i gave them grasshopers leg and they just moved it away from the tube.
Help please.
I will upload some pictures.

Excuse me for my bad english. xD

Oh super, Pictures!!^^
Maybe you can try honey or a mix of water and sugar.
I hope that's going to work.
You can also try some Drosophila. But in my opinion honey is best for now.
Good Luck with your Camponotus!
With best regards, Bobby.

Hmmm...
Idont get it. Shouldnt this specie be like really agressive and brave? My ants are hidding in the tube bellow the sand. Only 2 workers are coming out but they run in imediatly when they hear something...
O and i gave them honey water, but they just dont give a damn about it.

O and another question.
I have M essor structor queen with 50 workers and today i am planing to do ytong nest. Do you think it would be better if the ytong is laying on the ground or standing on the ground (with the ants in it of course).

BobbyTheMonkey: Re: Help please! (28. Aug 2010 12:07)

I can't help you with the Messor structor problem, sorry.
But its sure that your Camponotus ants need to work without being disturbed by anything. Just let them do their things. They will, when the colony has grown bigger, be more aggressive and curios.
Greetz!

Koki: Re: Help please! (28. Aug 2010 12:23)

yes but the problem is that they dont want to eat enything.

BobbyTheMonkey: Re: Help please! (28. Aug 2010 14:41)

I think you better wait and let them be alone. When they are really hungry they can't resist the smell of fresh honey.
Remember that a monogynal Queen can live up to 1 and a half years without beeing fed.
Greetz!

Should i give just honey in there?
