I got my queen last week she has 7 eggs/cacoons,there were 5 at the end of the tube and 2 at the front. When i placed the tube in the feeding area of my starter set and opened the
front of the tube she was very active going towards the lamp for warmth and eating honey/protein jelly. then she for sum reason grabbed the 2 cacoons at the front which i thought
looked like were ready to hatch then dropped them just outside of the tube. a few minutes later she started to gather pieces of sand and start to cover the cacoons just outside the test tube. The only reason i can think of for this behavior is that the two little cacoons at the front of the test tube are dead.
Any ideas People :?:
thnx
Hello martyn again :)
It could be that they are dead but i also think that if she has been going towards the lamp aswell then she could be trying to put them in a warmer area to help them to hatch a bit quicker.
this is just a theory but i wouldnt be suprised if that is what she was doing, as she has been eating alot aswell she maybe hungry so she would like some new workers quickly thus making them develop that little bit quicker in the heat.
matt
hi again matt, well i hope that is the reason :D
she is alot less active now, she has moved 2 other eggs closer to the entrance of the tube but she hasent covered them up.
Could be both reasons. :)
Yer thats what i thought jimmy when i first read it jimmy :)
im kinda getting into giving advice rather than taking now :)
matt :D
my C amponotus often move there brood closer to my plasma tv because its a source of heat , my guess is she is covering them with sand cos she feels exposed being in the light and all. my ants tend to eat dead brood rather than dump them, im speaking from experience
yea, well i guess it could be any of them reasons lol.
ill tell you if they hatch.
thnx guys.
