Lewis: keeping Camponotus ligniperda (6. Feb 2009 21:24)

hi

i have a Camponotus ligniperda queen with one worker and about 5 eggs
does anyone no exactly how i could raise a good colony.
do you know how long it takes from egg to worker?
because my eggs are taking ages to develop

thanks

This is how I raised my colony.

1. Make a small y-tong nest - fast
2. Give them a lot of flies
3. Don't put them to dry
4. Give them a constant temperature of 23~25 degrees
5. Make sure they have water - all the time
6. If the eggs don't develop, even at that temperature it means they are in hibernation and you should leave them alone

it takes months to get from egg to worker with these species

i agree with McK.. However.. i would be asking.. why on earth do you have a colony of Camponotus ligniperda if you dont know how to raise them.. You had better look around the forum pretty quick and read up on them.. otherwise chances are your gonna loose the colony.

People around his age always tend to buy a colony as an impulse and don't really think about the consequences.

Thanks guys

i got them because i have kept many speices of ants and have been succesful and would like to ty them.
i got them quiet a while ago and put them in a large fish tank with sand and logs they went in one of the logs and just kept dying after a while they came out of the log and went back in the test tube and there were only the queen some eggs and a worker.
i obviously got the rong set up.
and i have a spare y-tong to use for them.
:)

i would keep them in the testube until there's a few more workers
