Uncletommy: Camponotus ligniperda (5. Feb 2009 02:28)

Just thought id mention it but i left for unversity in September and i had my ants in a Y-tong. My mum moved them outside because she didnt want them in the house and they were forgotten about. On sunday i went home and remembered them...... turns out they went into hibernation and all woke up again! Even thought the temperatures have been minus for ages! All they had was the Y-tong to protect from the elements and they made it. Thuought id share that cos they are tough little guys!

I hope they are fine, it is hard to tell by just looking on them. You will know in a few months. Good luck.

Tough critters. Good for them!

There's a reason why it takes ages for a worker to develop, these bastards are very tough ;)

Hi McK, I saw you keep Camponotus barbaricus. That is a fearsome looking ant! Where did you get them?

I've bought them about a year ago, they are very cool but it takes ages for a worker to develop.
At the moment there's a major pupae in the nest, I'm really curious about how they look, I bet they're very beautiful.

You can see my older pictures here if you're interested.

Hee, het is in Hollandse! Mooi photos hoor, hoe groot is de koningin? 14mm of zo? I would love to see the major when she emerges. I looked at the site you recommended . Have a look at the Camponotus nigriceps. That's a 22mm queen. Huge.

Yeah, but the price is also 'huge' ;)

Yea, I saw that just now. Maybe they come with three wishes...
Should have said Flemish, and not Hollandse. Please excuse me, I meant no offence.
