I think both colonies are now hibernating. The heculaneus have not emerged since they went underground. No food has been taken during the night. this surprises me as they are being kept at room temperature.
I guess this means nothing to write about for 4 or 5 months, oh well.
Yeah, send both colonies to hibernation. When they dont move, eat and do anything i believe they prepare for hibernation....
Well... then my Camponotus vagus is preparing for hibernation since end of August. :? They just sit around and hardly ever move.
If they are at a to cold place they will prepare to hibernation (maybe to soon) I know they come from Europe but they may have a temperature from 25°c. (in my experience.)
hmm maybe best to buy a small heater?
If it is too cold now, it wont be warmer again here until probably around april
in deed, but they do not heating for there hibernation, but for now it would be a good solution.
Hard to say. In my oppinion the temperature drop was not so dramatic. In sumer temperature in the room where I keep them was around 25 °C. Since end of August the temperature in the same room is around 20 - 22 °C. In my oppinion still quite warm for them to be inactive. :?
hmm. in deed, that is not much difference in temperature. I'm not sure what i could be. Maybe they are just preparing for hibernation ?
dunno.... the ligniperda are still alive, but inactive, the herculaneus are underground now and do not emerge for feeding, I can't see them at all. I do not know the exact temperature they are being kept at but it must vary from 18-22 C. I am considering keeping them outside for a month or so before it gets too cold, so they can hibernate. Then I will bring the indoors again when temperatures are very low and start to raise the temperature with a heater.
Ive just taken delivery (2 days ago) of my C.ligniperda, and they are almost totally inactive, so I believe it is hibernation time. Im glad I read this forum because now i know its not just me, and I havn't done anything wrong. All that remains is to move them to a cooler place and cover them over so its dark...
