Very nice pics and video darradar.
Looks like your colony is doing great, yes i think they are waking up, looking at the eggs, (no eggs in hibernation) South European ants keep a hibernation from about 2-4 months. You could heat them up a bit, slowly increase the temperature.

Thanks !

my Messor barbarus (south european) are out of hibernation and laying eggs now

:jump: yippe so they arrived today, and wow they really are pretty ants, not like our native's at all, quite delecate actaully, there are 8 workers, and about 4 eggs with the queen in the tube, they seem very active considering their long journey.
So im putting them into the small arena and taking the bung off the test tube, and allowing them to move out when they so desire.
I shall keep you up to date. :beam:

Where do you get your C amponotus cruentatus?
Luis

couldnt find my torch so had to do do with a small lamp, hence not as good as my usual photo's due to poor lighting.. :( will try take better ones in a few days

:) here are my first cocoons, thier developing so quickly... and as you can see soooooooo many eggs n larvea at all different developments..!

there are a total of 4 cocoons, all nice n white, hmm :-k they change color as they develope right, i dont remember seeing them white last year..

ashhad1: Re: Camponotus cruentatus. (1. Mär 2008 19:11)

cocoons turn darker after some time and end up with a black spot on the bottom.
This means they will hatch soon so ur cocoons could take a little time to hatch but really nice ants and hope those cocoons hatch soon

JimmyVe: Re: Camponotus cruentatus. (1. Mär 2008 19:18)

They don't always turn darker, some of my species has also white cocoons and dark cocoons. Don't really know why ore how this happens. But the ants that hatch are all the same so there is not really a problem. ;)
