Im going to be sorting out a larger tank for when my colony outgrows their little basin. I was going to have a large terrarium with about 1 half of it ytong, and the nest carved into the front side and left side of the ytong. The ytong was going to be as if it was like a cliff/large rock, and the outworld was going to be "deserty". From reading i was going to have a syringe connected to a tube to fill a small reservoir on one side of it. Can you paint ytongs? also anybody have any idea for a good ytong nest shape. The species is sanguinea. Feel free to let your imagination flow and give us some crazy designs to attempt :)

nobody had a cool ytong idea they want to share? :(
I think you should be careful painting ytong. The ytong is porous so any water soluble toxin in the paint will eventually reach the ants.
What are you thinking? Natural looking, rounded shapes like a natural nest or an efficient artificial design?
well i wanted to resemble a cliff, say like *this* , but thats the easy part, what I wondered was if anybody had any ingenious designs for the actual nest. Most ytong nests i have seen are just boxed rooms linked up, I know this is probably good for simplicity/practicality, but I really want to create a nest that works, but is different. Like ideas of nests people have just sat there and thought up whilst bored at work or something, ideas that people think "woah that would be awesome", but never really get around to doing
I saw that someone carved the ytong like the map of Europe. I think that is going a bit far.
I have one :P
@Damon: It is possible to paint on ytong, also with aceton colors...
I guess you just have to be careful which paint you use.
Map of europe eh? a map isnt a bad idea actually. And lol at that little tiki guy :D
messorus, that little fella made me laugh :musik04:
