Hey Guys,
Right im no expert in ytong, but does its proporties change from block to block? Just askin as ive one block with my Lasius niger and that holds water brill only needs a top up once every few days and the water soaks nicely around the block. However the block i have for my Pheidole pallidula seems to need it everyday and the water pretty much drains straight through it into the gravel underneath. Is there anyway i might be able to get the ytong to hold the water longer? I have even thought about adding gravel into the well... would that work?? maybe even a layer of cotton wool?? Basicaly i dont really want the water running through it then there being loads of water in the bottom. Any help/advise/ideas would be most welcome.

nope, the block probly has slightly more/larger holes than the other one, nothing can you about it, except keep it moist from the bottom up instead
lol thats exactly what happens to my lasius flavus I have to put water in everyday to sometimes twice a day I have started using some compost so it soaks up the water since it sometimes goes in the basin with the ants so they will not drown ;)
In my experience it is in deed better to keep the nest moist from the bottom up (like miszt said). If you look at the pictures of the setup i have posted (already a few times ;) ) you can see how you can do that.
yes i dont think il be doin it from the top EVER again.. atm im now using cotton wool.. which is working to some extent.. also the bottom is pretty wet.. so im sure its all gonna be ok :D thanks guys
