robby42: aerated block nest (10. Sep 2007 18:12)

hi guys
My ytong nest made out of a wickes aerated block is looking good now,but there is acouple of 4mm small holes in one of the chambers,is it o.k. to fill these with silicone sealant or is this harmful to messor barb ants or any other ants for that matter.

I also use silicone to paste the plexi to the y-tong, so for it seems harmless to the ants. But i try not to use it to much, you never know. ;)

Post some pictures from you farm. ;)

as long as you use Aquarium Safe silicon sealant, you shouldnt have any problems

however, having said that, you should not use it if the ants are currently in the nest, it needs to set for 48hrs, during which time it gives off allot of gases including Sulphur which are not good for any animal

its o.k. miszt
ants won,t go in the nest till the nest is completely finished.
