Hello,
They live in wood, so I recommend you to build a wooden nest. That's not very difficult, if you ask someone if he can help you, for example, holding the piece of wood, its make it easier. If you offer them fresh strawberries, raspberries or apricots, they use it to expand the wooden nest. That's been my experience that I gained. :)
Here is some picture of my wooden nest for my Crematogaster scuterallis. The red circle mark the entry :)

Looks epic, but what tool did you use, also could i see a pic of your whole nest maybe? And also suppose they would expand it as well?
That's the whole nest. It consists of a thick branch with a diameter of 10cm. I halved this one and then drilled with a drill the corridors and chambers. Then glued with silicone on glass pane, so I can remove the nest and replace easily. They expand the corridors and the chambers by thereself. If the nest became to small I have to add another on or replace it with a bigger one.
Thanks! Did you sterilise the log? Also what do you feed yours?

I only remove the bark no more. I only use honey and dried Gammarus and some dead insects because until now they don't hunt any insects.
Please help!
Crematogaster scutellaris or Crematogaster scuterallis?
Greetings Wolfgang
