is a moat a good idea for escape prevention for L.niger
i plan on using a lone queen so her first workers would be really thick (in ant standards anyway) and i dont want the poor suckers to walk in and drown?
if it is a good idea should i use water or cooking oil as i heard somewhere that that is a a better option and i dont know whether or not it is a good idea as it is thicker and corpes could possibly float and create a morbid bridge
I think moats are bad ideas myself as your always going to get the odd ant drown, you really are much better off with PTFE. And there are English antshops that sell it.
any idea where? my town has a pets at home that sells insects and 2 other private pet shops but havent been in them sinse i bought my gold fish when i was 13 lol so i dont know about them
so a moat isnt a good idea?
The problems are if you use water for the moat then the ants will either float across or drown and if you use oil then the ants will simply drown, even if you rescue it within seconds of it falling in, the coating of oil will suffocate it :( .
+ Moats are messy and take up space; it is much more practical to use PTFE or a lid.
Moats are the last resort.
cool thanks guys. i think i will stay will a lid and ptfe then. is it avaliable in places like pets at home or should i get it from here
