Nylanderi only live in certan parts of the UK. But i don't see how letting them free could harm the local enviroment (apart from what Kashmir79 said).
Another reason why its wrong could be that the ant doesnt live in his area of britain. So it would still be alien in his region plus wat kashmir said

that sentence doesnt make any sense, u agree that there is a problem, but it isnt a problem?
Its a very real problem, one we must be very careful about
Think about the Human species, Homo sapiens, there are diseases around the world that will easily kill someone from for eg. the USA but not someone from SE Asia, the same principal applies to animals, animals can carry disease without being killed by it, its only when it gets into another animal who has no natrual protection against it that things get out of hand, and it also applies intra-species aswell, AID's is an extreme example of how bad this can become, it spread from Monkeys in Africa, within a few decades, to become one of the biggest epidemics the world has seen in our history
I give up.. some people just dont get it.. And if they continue they will soon wonder why our eco system is in such a shambles and why every day ants like lasius niger become a rare ant.
and why the uk government wont let us ship or get ants from different countries. I mean the government will make this alot mroe strict and hopefully we wont end up like the USA and the fireants...
Imagine if a person was to sucseffuly (highly unlikly) relece a Atta colonie that could cope with the british weather!!!!! This WOULD be absolutly disaterous.
But in the end, life will always find a way. [-o<
OK OK LOL
now now lads :P
well im sorry i thought species found in the UK would be fine in the UK.
however, in my opinion:
survival of the fittest
Evolution for the win
dont comment its just the way i see it
There in test tubes now so no possible harm done :P
theres only several nylanderi left for some reason, ill see how they go for a while and if the numbers climb back ill sell them on for a v.small price.
The niger seem in good condition though , lotsa brood and approx 18 workers (there numbers have gone down too i think...did start them as just a mating flight queen though....)
if you dont want the nylanderi i know someone who would have them off you.. as long as you have the queen.
lol yes
a colony without the queen wouldnt be much good :D
Some species of ant can reproduce without a queen/queens. But i think it's limited to only a few exotic species.
