ok update on my colonies
both lasius niger and the nylanderi have been freed
the myrmica rubra have moved into the 11mm cork nest antstore sell
and my ligniperda colony in the tree are still 1 worker 1 queen but finally have 4 well developed pupae
The other ligniperda in the boxy formicarium are churning out ants frequently , the were 6 workers a month ago but are now 13.
cant beat lobbing a twitchy cricket in there and watching my only major worker, suitably named 'soldier boy' go mental at whatever i through in there
lol soldier boy, why did you set them free! i know people who would have wanted the nylanderi, but oh well, keep it up.
u set the nylanderi free in this country?????????
well i wasnt going to make an overseas trip especially :P

This degree isnt leaving me much free time at the mo :(

But nylanderi are native in UK. In http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_ants
it is on the list, notice the proper scientific name of this species for a few years is TEMNOTHORAX nylanderi.
well i never saw any nylanderi in the uk
Leptothorax/Temnothorax are usually hard to spot, and this species can be rare, but for sure it is not alien.

thats not the point, the species is not the only issue when bringing an animal from another country, if you read the information on that thread you will see this ;)
any animal that comes from another country is Alien, regardless of whether or not the species lives nativly in the country
plus foreign native ants can carry diseases.
