Seems interesting insanebe, don't you have problems with your multi species basin ? Can you post some pictures from that setup ?
Its a big basin full of sand, curently home to
1 large formica fusca colony with 3 queens +80 -100 workers (status hibernating, minimal activity)
1 well established pheidole colony 20+ 2 soldiers many many brood, the heat from the tv means they move the brood close to the glass, (status thriving it is sand after all)
1 MB colony 12 a few brood ants in a buried but open test tube ( Status semi hibernating, i see one occasionally but only at night it seems)
1 Iridomyrmex anceps colony 8 ants 20+ brood in an exposed test tube unburied ( status smallest colony but growing fast, never seen them leave the test tube yet)
3 MR works (a failed wild collected colony the queen died and i wanted the test tube :p )
conflicts have been minimal and only occurred when first introduced,
a formica scout attacked the entrance to the new Pheidole colony when it was introduced his leg bitten off by an angry soldier lol watch them powerful jaws, he escaped and ran away with a limp however,
other than that they tend to avoid each other, most deaths are due to getting stuck in food and drowning
lol and i thought i was bad.. uve no idea what uve let yaself in for.. but its gonna be great to watch.. u hope your going to take photos and document this...
Your pheidole colony i think will more probabily dominate... but that will depend on how fast the mb grow... my pp colony grew very very fast.. and is now 1000's of workers.. they wiped out one of my mb colonys overnight.. and they was like 100/200 strong.. and they wasnt in the same setup.. they got out.. as they do.. and that was it..
all i can say dude.. is GOODLUCK
I have no illusions the idea was to see how the different species interact, the fusca is dominating at the minute they are the biggest ants and most numerous
You are looking for trouble with this setup for sure. When the colonies grow they will fight. The setup is much to small for all those colonies to grow. I would advice to other keepers to keep there ants in different setups.
I wish you good luck. :)
place ur bets now lol
pheidole seem to be the favorites
to be honest i will take a long while for the to grow that big, they have been in there for months but almst no fighting
Lets hope it stays that way. :)
